Von den Britannischen Insuln. 17x25 cms. Full page map of Britain after Ptolemy. In text portrait of King James (11x15 cms.) on verso. Scotland veers far too much to the east (possibly because the printers run out of printing space). Rivers are marked, as well as some counties and cities. Compare this 'primitive' map of Britain to the one on page two with its hundreds of names; both published in the same Atlas. A possible explanation is that competition from the Ortelius and Mercator Atlas publishers was forcing the Sebastian Henricipetri printing house to slowly abandon the cartography of Ptolemy and move on with the times by publishing the 'modern' double page maps of the world.
