"The excavations described in this volume were carried out by means of funds bequeathed to the Trustees by Miss Emma Turnout Turner in 1892. The result has been the enrichment of the Museum to an unprecedented degree in a class of antiquities which for a number of years has been engrossing the attention of students" (Preface).

During the three years of excavations from 1894 to 1896 the British archaeologists moved from sites at Amathus to Curium and finally Enkomi. It is interesting to note that "in accordance with the law of Cyprus, a third of the objects found were handed over to the Government of the island..."
